Through the process of piercing, goldsmiths use a simple tool, the jeweler's handsaw, to execute intricate and complex designs in metal. Piercing is an essential basic skill for all metal artists, and a simple and effective means to produce a diverse variety of jewelry objects. In this two-day workshop students will learn to layout precise designs directly on metal and to transfer printed designs from paper. Expert instruction will be followed by hands on exploration using the jewelers saw to cut out basic shapes in copper and brass. Each student will produce a pierced design pendant in fine silver as their final project. Helpful Information: A $50.00 materials kit is available for purchase during the workshop.
