Add Review/CommentSight Unseen is an exciting contemporary drama/comedy by the Pulitzer Prize winning author of Dinner with Friends (which Actors Theatre produced a few years ago.) Sight Unseen was originally produced in New York in 1992 when it won the Obie Award for Best New American Play, was nominated for a Drama Desk Award, and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize; and just last year it had a major revival in New York. Sight Unseen is the story of Jonathan Waxman, an American mega-artist so successful his pieces are sold for astronomical prices sight unseen from a waiting list of wealthy patrons. On a trip to England for a retrospective of his paintings, Waxman visits his original muse and lover whom he abandoned in his quest for the opulent life, which now devours him. In taut scenes that dart from past to present, the characters, including his former lover's husband, are forced to deal with anti-Semitism, the legacy of assimilation, the sadness of lost love, the role of the artist and the location of the human soul at the end of a ragged century. '... you can tell when a play has gripped its audience, for no one seems to breathe, let alone shift in his seat. This phenomenon can be observed...at Sight Unseen, a smart and sad comedy by Donald Margulies.' New York Times. 'You certainly should catch...the exciting Sight Unseen.' NY Magazine. Sight Unseen replaces Death of a Salesman.
