Steel Magnolias
September 23-October 10, 2004
The close-knit women at Truvy's Beauty Salon have lots of time to gossip. Their husbands (absent, depressed, or dead) have made sure of that. Alternately hilarious and touching, the play focuses on the camaraderie of six Southern women who talk, gab, gossip, chitchat, needle and harangue each other through the best of times - - and cry, caress, comfort one another through the worst. Pushing laughter and pain together, Steel Magnolias pulls tears from even the most cynical eyes. Performance Information: Show Previews September 23, 8:00pm. Special Showings: September 25, 8:00pm, ASL signed for the deaf and the hearing impaired. October 7, 8:00pm, Community Night all tickets $10.00 each (does not apply to season ticket vouchers). Helpful Informaion: Parking in the adjacent lot and on nearby streets is free after 6 pm Monday through Saturday and all day Sunday. Credits: By Robert Harling. Directed by Damon Dering.

If you really want to see well done musical theatre in the greater Phoenix area, then visit the Tempe Arts Center this holiday weekend and see Kiss Me, Kate, directed by Jeffrey Middleton. Not only is Middleton a wonderful local actor, now he has proven himself as an accomplished director too! There was a cast replacement, a good one too, for Bianca/Lois, so if you saw it before, it's even better! I have seen it twice and will be going back this last weekend with the family, instead of paying for yet another disappointment at the movies! The entire cast rocks, the costumes are bright, and fun, the live band is amazing, and the leads are out of this world! Hopefully Middleton will direct again something soon! This show proves that community theatre is fantastic when it is done right! DON'T MISS THIS SHOW! I smell some Zoni's! Collapse

I was really looking forward to seeing this production at the lovely new venue in Tempe (especially after seeing last season's show "5 Women Wearing the Same Dress" there) But my friends and I were really disappointed in this show. First of all, it is really dated (not the actors fault,of course) but I don't know why they would chose this show. Secondly, the actors were really struggling with lines and it showed. The lady in the third act was pretty funny, but the other two (especially the young girl) were not so great. The guy, who played in all three scenes was OK, but not as funny as he should have been. He got better as the show went on. Again, just not up to par for a good theater company. Collapse

Great acting ensemble! Set and costumes are perfect. Each actress takes her turn and they perform wonderfully. Angela steals the show with the many facets of her character portrayal. You are with her all the way.Grab your cheeto-colored shoes and see this one. Just be prepared- these women are salty!(except for one!) Bring the men- they will love the insight!Kudos to TLT and to the director of this tight, funny, wonderful night of theatre. Class Act. Collapse

Funny and sad, touching and hilarious--a great combination! Not for the faint-of-heart when it comes to drugs, sex, or blue language, but the acting and script are great.

I saw this on saturday night and fell in love with this show. The women in this show are so great and totally believable. Normally in a show with 5 women you would expect one to stand out over the others. With this show every woman in the cast is phenomenal. A very talented cast. My only dissapointment is that its only two weekends and I wont get a chance to see it again. Collapse
