The Book of Kells Museum is now completed! Located inside the Irish Cottage at The Irish Cultural Center a masterpiece of Celtic Art awaits. Only a limited 1,480 copies of the historic Book of Kells have been issued. Museums and universities around the world quickly purchased these famous copies except for one. Irish Cultural Center member and valley businessman, Sean Lee, owns the only known privately owned copy of the Book of Kells, which dates back to 800 AD. Born in Kells Ireland, Mr. Lee has a personal connection to this famous book, which was created by the monks at Kells Monastery. The Book of Kells was stolen for its Jewels on the cover and landed in a mud bog behind the home that Sean Lee grew up. Lee's copy is permanently on display in the Book of Kells Museum. Written on velum in Latin by the Monks, the 680-page Book of Kells records real estate transactions between the monastery and independent landowners. It served as seat of law, learning and artistry as well as the recording of the four gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
