The Secret Garden
Paradise Valley Community College
June 25-June 29, 2008
This enchanting classic of children's literature is now a brilliant musical by a Pulitzer Prize winning playwright. Orphaned in India, an 11 year-old girl returns to Yorkshire to live with an embittered, reclusive uncle and his invalid son. The estate includes a magic locked garden. Flashbacks, dream sequences, a strolling chorus of ghosts, and some of the most beautiful music ever written for Broadway dramatize The Secret Garden's compelling tale of regeneration. Saw the Preview Performance last night (6/18).Brilliant cast, more brilliant Director (Mark Stoddard) and mesmerizing choreography. Choreography in ITW, you ask??? Yes, Kathleen has once again summoned her inner Modern Dancer and presents the audience with Nerms that are there with you in the woods, or are they? Great vocalists all around including the Director's son, Philip, who is heading to Juilliard in the fall. Little Red, the Narrator and the Princes are especially entertaining. Beautiful set, terrific staging and lighting design. Costuming well done and includes the witches costume(s) worn by Vanessa Williams in the Broadway production. Not your typical community theater! Director Stoddard will put PVCC Theater on the map with this work! DON'T MISS IT! Collapse
