I went to the Children of Eden not sure what to expect and was throughly amazed at the girl who plays Eve. Malia will bring you to tears with her portrayal of Eve! Her voice was true, her emotions believable, and I rejoiced every time she was on stage. David as “The Father” has authority and commands the stage. My only complaint is the Orchestra over powered the singin at times. Other than that you don't want to miss out on a great show right here in Mesa. Collapse

BLACKBEARD is an amazing visual experience. The set seamlessly transforms from one pirate ship to another. The orchestra & chorus push the music to soaring heights. The main cast is rock solid, led by Jere VanPatten's show stealing performance as foppish Stede Bonnet, the Gentleman Pirate. (I smell Zoni for VanPatten!) Unfortunately, the script lacks structure. I honestly can't tell who I'm supposed to be rooting for. None of the characters are developed enough to truly take charge of the story. Beyond the bravado, we get few insights into Blackbeard's personality. Leading ladies Mary & Anne use their beautiful voices to belt out several sappy, codependent love songs about how they can't possibly live without their men. These are counterbalanced by some very strong numbers including "Bad Boys," "The Look Makes the Man," and VanPatten's 2 showstopping numbers "Bonnet's Tale" & "If You Want to be a Pirate." Best of luck to the show in the future but the story needs work. Collapse
