Paradise Valley Community College's Center for the Performing Arts will celebrate the expansive musical career of American jazz icon Herbie Hancock. As a pianist, keyboardist, flautist, composer and bandleader, the Chicago-born visionary produced over fifty full-length recordings and received countless recognition and awards spanning three decades, among which recently include 2008's Harvard Foundation Artist of the Year and the 2008 Album of the Year Grammy Award. Most notably, Hancock is accredited with a pure dedication to experimentalism and a self-proclaimed spirit of venturing into every new project motivated purely by the desire to expand the boundaries of my creativity. As performed by the PVCC Faculty Jazz Quintet, saxophonist Scott Zimmer, vibraphonist Brett Reed, pianist Dan Delaney, bassist Ted Sistrunk and drummer John Lewis, the tribute will explore the landscape of musical possibilities that Herbie Hancock helped create, influence and shape.
