An exciting new musical by Rob Gardner about America's most notorious pirate, Edward Teach-known as Blackbeard-who used his fearsome façade to capture and plunder his way into legend. This powerful musical, surrounding the pirate's famously brazen blockade of Charleston Harbor, had an extremely successful workshop run last summer and will now see its world premiere at the Herberger Theater Center. Additional Information: Friday, September 5, 7:30pm, Saturday, September 6, 2:00pm and Saturday, Sept 6, 7:30pm - Opening Weekend Special: Premium tickets same price as Level I!

I saw this show about a week ago with a friend and found myself haunted by some of the music. I invited my brothers to come with me to the last matinee performance. It was fabulous. Beautiful score, engaging plot, and entertaining and poignant lyrics. I hope that tagging it a "pre-broadway" show doesn't hurt it's chances to move forward, for there is great potential there. Highly recommended. Collapse

Fantastic music and the leads fantastic acting made this show enjoyable but because the music and acting were so good, it left me wanting much more from the story and the characters. The conflict in the characters just didn't feel plausible and it was impossible to relate to them. but that said, Rob is an incredibly gifted composer and his music makes you feel love, excitement, drama, and best of all: humor! I attended with our whole family. Blackbeard has all the excitement, quality and talent associated with the best shows. I connected immediately with the characters. I found great variety in the music. I enjoyed comedy, romance, drama and even swashbuckling. Evenings of excellent musical theatre with a very talented live orchestra are few and far between in our valley. Thanks to Rob Gardner for premiering this show in our town. Thanks to cast and crew for their hard work and a stellar event. Can't wait to see the show again. Yes, I do want to be a Pirate!!! Collapse

This was very entertaining! I went with my family opening night not knowing what to expect. We saw the billboard a few days earlier near Tempe Town Market and noticed it was about pirates and thought it would be fun. I was really impressed. The music was catchy and inspiring. I found myself humming the song today "to be remembered" sung by Blackbeard. It has a little something for everyone--pirates, prisoners, guns, swords, comedy (there's a really funny comic-relief pirate who bought and hired his way into piracy) and there's a surprisingly well developed love story. There were a few sound kinks with cannons and guns that I'm sure are common with an opening night, but all in all I would definitely recommend it. Collapse
