Series Schedule: Monday, October 6 Our Nationhood (2003, 96 min). Canadian First Nation filmmaker and artist Alanis Obomsawin chronicles the determination and tenacity of the Listuguj Mi'gmaq people to use and manage the natural resources of their traditional lands. Our Nationhood provides a contemporary perspective on the Mi'gmaq people's ongoing struggle and ultimate success, culminating in the community receiving an award for best-managed river from the same government that had denied their traditional rights. Monday, October 13 Relive the Past (2004, 30 min) is the stirring story of how one tiny tribe defeated the federal and state governments' plans to build a dam that would have drowned their homeland. In the early 1970s, the Fort McDowell Yavapai Community received word that the federal government planned to pay the tiny tribe for its lush Verde River home. However, Yavapai people did not want to leave their hard-won homeland and fought to preserve their lands and way of life over a 10-year period. Monday, October 20 Woven By Their Grandmother: 19th Century Navajo Blankets (1998, 30 min). Explore the 19th century Navajo textiles collection of the National Museum of the American Indian and learn how contemporary weavers sustain their communities' economies and culture. Monday, October 27 Expiration Date (2006, 94 min). Charlie Silvercloud III believes he will carry on a family curse. His father and grandfather were both killed by milk trucks on their 25th birthdays. Charlie is about to turn 25. He has accepted his fate, and is going about shopping for caskets and returning his library books when he meets a girl who won't let him die in peace. Starring Robert Guthrie, Sascha Knopf and Dee Wallace Stone.
