This exhibit will feature national artists, whose works are inspired by the art and culture of tattoos. The art of tattooing- where skin is the artist's canvas - has roots in primitive tribal cultures, yet still thrives today as an expression of individuality and ingenuity. Beneath the Skin in the South Gallery of MCA takes a fascinating look at tattoos through the eyes of visual artists. The exhibit includes Shawn Barber's revealing portraits of tattoo artists and Sherri Lynn Wood's tattoo embroidered dolls, as well as works by Aaron Cain, Alix Lambert, Don Ed Hardy, Elizabeth McGrath and Morgan Slade, John Wyatt, Nick Bubash, and Tom DeVita.
