Add Review/CommentJoin artist Janet Echelman for a special gallery talk and discussion of her huge hand-knotted sculpture The Expanding Club, 2007, a centerpiece of Radical Lace & Subversive Knitting. First inspired to make the wind visible while watching Indian fisherman pull in their billowing nets, Echelman says, 'I was mesmerized by the form of their nets and the fact that they were so changeable and flexible. They became this three-dimensional form that had no weight.' This is a special opportunity for an intimate conversation with the artist, who is influenced by subjects as diverse as nature and politics. Her public artwork Sky Bloom, (based on a saguaro flower), created for the Downtown Civic Space Park, Phoenix, generated controversy earlier this year and is visible via web cam at http://copp.asu.edu/do/from-the-dean/civic-space. Guests meet in the museum lobby prior to the presentation.
