Many canyon trips are carried out as planned - facts are uncovered, beauty is exposed and experienced, and hazardous routes are negotiated with aplomb. But not every trip into the canyons of the Colorado Plateau proceeds as intended; blunders, surprises and preposterously unlikely situations can and do occur.
