This remarkable piece of drama comes to the stage as science, religion, logic and faith collide head-on. A play by John Pielmeier, it tells the story of a novice nun barely out of her teens who has given birth in a convent to a child she is now accused of murdering. Insisting that the dead child was the result of a virgin birth, a psychiatrist and the mother superior of the convent clash during the resulting investigation. As the psychiatrist becomes more in touch with herself and her view of the world while she is analyzing Agnes, Agnes claims no memory or knowledge of the event. Her Mother Superior, Mother Miriam Ruth, insists that Agnes does not understand what happened. Agnes of God challenges ideas about faith, reason, mystery, miracles, sacrifice and redemption. It's the underlying theme of faith and how it can protect, heal, inspire and in some cases, destroy. Age-appropriate for teens and older audience members.
