Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer-prize winning Broadway musical based loosely on Puccini's opera La Bohème, follows '525,600 minutes' in the lives of seven friends living the disappearing Bohemian lifestyle in New York's East Village. AIDS, with both its physical and emotional complications, haunts the group. The show has been called a 'landmark musical' and went on to win the Tony Award in 1996. Rent is currently the 8th longest running musical in Broadway history. MET is proud to be one of the first community theatres in the country to produce Rent as production rights were only recently released. Longtime local theatre director and actor, Phillip Fazio, takes the helm. Rent is produced in cooperation with Musical Theatre International.

I have been amazed by how many people have been praising this production. My only thought is that it must be family members and friends of the cast and production team. What I heard of this show was a miscast and an off key mess. Unfortunately no one seems to have had the guts to say it. Well, here is the truth. Just because you can do a show doesn't mean you should, and MET should not have attempted this show. Its actors are simply not strong enough to sing or act this touching story. Collapse

I never thought I'd see the day but glad that I have. I cannot even begin to describe how happy I am that my favorite musical is getting a local production in my ultra conservative city of Mesa. And what a production it is! Great work everyone, can't wait to see it again this weekend! Collapse

This show turned out great! I was skeptical because of some of the negative remarks made here, but really loved the show. It makes a difference seeing this show in a smaller venue. I got more out of it than when I saw it on Broadway. Pretty strong cast, but a couple leads were weak that should really carry the show. MET's best work yet Collapse

I loved the show. It might not have the slickness of a Broadway production but it has all the heart one could want. These actors and actresses love what they do and on a limited budget they do it well. I loved it and for those who feel disdain for community theater I feel sad that they just don't get it. It's not about perfection it's about passion and this cast was amazing. Thumbs up!! Collapse

Who knew that this production would be SO WONDERFUL! The show is that magic combination of wonderful voices, wonderful music, excellent acting, and a moving story that covers the rainbow of human emotion. I just heard that the show has been extended another weekend, and no wonder! The whole audience was on its feet during La Vie Boheme, singing with the cast - a precursor to the long standing ovation at the end of the show. All theater should be able to grab you like this! Thank you Mesa Encore Theatre, thank you Phillip Fazio (Director), thank you to the entire cast, crew, and the live musicians, thank you to Jonathan Larsen for writing this work! (I'm sure he can hear us from heaven.) Collapse
