ASU Herberger College Mainstage Organ presents a wonderful opportunity to hear a wide spectrum of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach in seven diverse, thematic programs from October through March. Kimberly Marshall, Goldman Professor of Organ at ASU, and Jeffrey Campbell, organist at St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church in Tucson, present Bach's complete free works (not based on chorales) for organ. Johann Sebastian Bach was known during his lifetime as a great organ virtuoso. Constantin Bellerman wrote in 1743: 'Bach...deserves to be called the miracle of Leipzig... For if it pleases him, he can by the use of his feet alone (while his fingers do either nothing or something else) achieve such an admirable, agitated and rapid concord of sounds on the church organ that others would seem unable to imitate it even with their fingers. …he ran over the pedals with this same facility, as if his feet had wings...' Jeffrey Campbell reenacts the 'miracle of Leipzig' in a program containing some of Bach's most demanding music. Credits: Performed by Jeffrey Campbell.
