ASU Herberger College Mainstage Organ presents a wonderful opportunity to hear a wide spectrum of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach in seven diverse, thematic programs from October through March. Kimberly Marshall, Goldman Professor of Organ at ASU, and Jeffrey Campbell, organist at St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church in Tucson, present Bach's complete free works (not based on chorales) for organ. In 1722, Bach accepted the position of Cantor at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, a position he would hold until his death in 1750. It was here that he composed some of his most ambitious music for organ, refining the many strands of influence received from north German, French and Italian sources into a uniquely personal style. This program contains two trio sonatas where the organ imitates the sound of a trio, using two keyboards and pedals for the three independent lines and closes with the massive 'Wedge' Fugue Credits: Performed by Kimberly Marshall.
