The Sharks and the Jets, Tony and Maria, the romance and the rumbles--all combine to re-tell the classic Romeo and Juliet tale in this electrifying musical about two young lovers from opposite sides of warring neighborhood street gangs, struggling to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice. Don't miss this powerful story that combines an explosion of dance with breathtaking songs like 'Somewhere,' 'Tonight,' and 'Maria.' Something's coming...something great, and it's West Side Story! Credits: Book by Arthur Laurents; Music by Leonard Bernstein; Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Directed by Antonio Villarreal. Helpful Information: Suitable for school age and older.

Desert Stages Theatre has a hit on their hands with West Side Story. Antonio Villarreal's (director, chorographer, costumer & Bernardo) concept shined brightly last night from the moment the Jets came on stage dancing brilliantly followed by the sharks and the whole cast in vibrant bright exciting colors, dances, and vocalizations. How Antonio was able to take a large scale musical and make it work in an intimate setting such as Desert Stages is nothing short of genius. It has to be seen to be believed! Incredible performances by talented actors made this a theatrical experience that I personally have not experienced in any local Phoenix theatres. This is not to be missed!! Collapse
