“It’s about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice, or take a stand, or turn around and go back. The moment you think you know where you stand, the things that you’re sure of slip from your hand, and you’re suddenly a stranger in some completely different land.” – Jason Robert BrownSongs for a New World with music and lyrics by Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown, opened at Off-Broadway’s WPA Theatre in 1995 and has since received over two hundred productions around the world. Straddling the boundary between musical and song cycle, Songs is a highly theatrical and character-driven production about love, life and seizing the moment. Jason Robert Brown is also known for his other acclaimed musicals Parade and The Last Five Years.

We walked out of the 10:30 show last night in speechless awe! We were so amazed at the performance that, if it weren't 12:30 at night I would have been on the phone calling people to tell them about the show and to go see it. We saw Rent in NYC last January, and this is equal! Collapse

I wonder if Jonathan Larson were alive today and saw TTB at Soul Invictus, if he would not be grinning ear to ear because he thought it was a nearly perfect venue for this show. I wonder if he wouldn't come up to the cast after this run is over and pour out his gratitude for sharing their talent, energy, and emotion into this show. I wonder if he wouldn't simply stand back, breath it in, and say, "This is what I had in mind when I wrote this show." It's hard for me to believe that Jonathan himself would be ANYTHING but utterly pleased with what is happening at Soul Invictus. If you have not seen this show yet, go. Don't read anymore...simply go. You will be moved in ways that theater was intended to move people. Thank you cast, band, directors, and Soul Invictus! Last night was absolutely magnificant...can't wait to go again!!! Collapse

It has been far too long since I've found myself in AWE! over a theatre project. I will have you know that Soul Invictus theatre space and the two amazing casts set to perform Tick..Tick...Boom couldn't have been done anywhere else by anyone else. The entire cast did an impeccable job of portraying their characters, completely believable and consumable. The music and the band who provided the sound offered something you would have a hard time finding in any other space. I left breathless and completety taken by this marvelous play, the direction, the vocals, simply put the talent all around is superb! And I'm seeing it again on Thursday January 25, 2007. Do yourself a favor and go see this play. Collapse

So, I actually went and saw it the 2nd night and it rocked my socks off. I was right. I knew it was going to. The storyline was great and was nothing like I expected it to be. I was listening to the music for at least two months before the show, then saw it and didn't know that that was how it all went down. BUT! I still loved it. I even still listen to the music all the time. I wish that they would make a video of it so I can watch it over and over again! I also wish that they would make soundtracks with these actors singing so i can make people that haven't seen it, listen to how amazing my cousin is. tata fo now! Collapse
