Katurian, a writer of horrifying short stories, is interrogated by the police in an unnamed totalitarian state. Gruesome crimes that mirror his short stories are being committed against children in his community. As the detectives perfect their good cop/bad cop routine, we enter into the darkly funny and disturbing world of the writer's imagination. With black humor and an ironic bite that masks a deeply serious sense of purpose, The Pillowman asks many provocative questions, including: does violence in our society lead to violent art, or does violent art lead to violence in our society? Helpful Information: This play contains scenes and language that some may find disturbing. Not suitable for children or those who may be easily offended.

This gem from Actors Theatre is an incredibly well written, provocative, disturbing, sad, beautiful, hilarious piece of work. It is brilliantly directed and the show's cast defines great acting. It's the kind of work that warns "it's not for everyone", but it should be. This is exactly the kind of work that needs more visibility and support. It's the kind of work that separates AT from the other pro houses, and it is exactly the kind of work they do best! Collapse
