What a well received piece of music! A standing ovation! We need to hear more of this guy!

The mission of Musica Nova is to play what we can't hear anywhere else. But sometimes nobody ought to subjected to it. Patrick Jonathan's Symphony No. 2 was a total waste of time and effort. "What a piece of crap!" were the first words that came out of my mouth. I'm sure many members of the orchestra would agree, even though they got paid to sit through it. Apparently chosen because his teacher was Arnell, a favorite composer of conductor Cohen, whose symphonies were recorded by Musica Nova but never publicly released (maybe because there's no market for them?). Jonathan is a "not ready for prime time" note jotter who has no clue how to convey a musical idea. Let's hope this premiere is also the burial. It proves that it's not how good you are, but who you know in the business. As for cellist Yehuda Hanani, tell him to stop tapping his toes (no such percussion parts appear in the score). Don't speed up every entrance. Over-the-top showboating. Only redemption: 2nd mvt Thomson Concerto. Collapse
