The Musica Nova Baroque Orchestra was added to the musica nova family in the fall of 2004. With this orchestra we expand the educational mission of musica nova; the historically informed performances will both fill an unmet need in the Phoenix music scene and serve as a way to develop the skills and knowledge of both players and audiences. Scheduled Performance: Regional Premiere - Berio/Schubert: Rendering (based on the Symphony no.10) Schumann: Konzertstucke for 4 Horns
    Schubert: Symphony no.5

MusicaNova's top notch professional horn section gave a rendering of the rarely performed Schumann Konzertstucke. Rare because it is so hard to find four players of equal talent and cohesiveness. Padglick, French, Rittenhouse, Miles --- three young ladies and a mature gentleman --- distributed the four parts to fit their respective personalities perfectly. The 3rd and 4th horns, usually in a more supporting role, showed beautiful sonorities in their second movement duet. The 1st and 2nd horns repeatedly picked those notes from the strastrophere without hesitation. The warmth of the quartet's tone emanated from the middle of the orchestra in the tight quarters of the Kerr Cultural Center. What will they do for an encore? Berio's Rendering of Schubert's sketches for his incomplete Symphony No.10 was quite enjoyable, thanks to Maestro Cohen's talk. It left this Cat with a desire to explore more of Berio's music. Once again, MusicaNova opened my eyes to new adventures! Collapse
