This is not your mother's Bad Seed,' says director Robert X. Planet of his re-imagined staging of playwright Maxwell Anderson's Tony-winning 1954 shocker. 'Those who are only familiar with the 1956 film adaptation are in for some stunning surprises, most notably the ending, which is completely different.' The play's lurid storyline centers around little Rhoda Penmark - a smart, polite, punctual and fastidious eight-year old. But - as mom Christine gradually discovers when a series of horrifying events unfolds - the precocious child is far from perfect. Whenever Rhoda wants something, she gets it - by whatever means necessary. Planet, an award-winning set and costume designer, says 'We're taking a broader and deeper look at this chilling story, which supports the notion that evil can be inherited.' Fans of the film will discover that iTC's version does pay homage to the movie - which marked its 50th anniversary last year - in certain elements of costuming and set design. 'Beyond that,' says Planet, 'our makeover augments Anderson's masterful script with additional details from the source novel by William March, and expands it beyond the box set with innovative staging, audio and video effects.' A special Mother's Day matinee Tea is planned for May 13.

I loved the movie The Bad Seed, so I knew I'd like the show, but I didn't expect it to be as funny but moving as it was. With a full grown man playing little 8 year old Rhoda, and Paul Braun's witty take on landlady Monica Breedlove, there were plenty of laughs, but not in a spoofy way. Rosemary Close, Petey Swartz, and Greg Lutz are excellent, playing the heck out of their roles! The rest of the audience was just as into the show as I was--Laughing, applauding and getting totally caught off-guard by the sad and tragic elements that really pack a punch! Robert X. Planet did a marvelous job! Collapse
