The exhibit brings a personal account of life onboard the USS Arizona in the 1920's and 1930's. Photos, personal objects and souvenirs of sailors who served on the USS Arizona tell of the daily life. The survivors of the attack on December 7th recount the mighty ship's final moments. The battleship USS Arizona was named in honor of the state. It was commissioned in 1913 and launched in 1915 from the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Esther Ross, the daughter of a Prescott pioneer family, christened the ship with champagne and a bottle of water that was the first water to flow over the Roosevelt Dam. A large piece of the USS Arizona battleship is on display at the Capitol Museum. Neither the Museum nor the Navy have any idea where this piece of metal was located on the USS Arizona. Many people including survivors have suggested locations on the ship. One thing is certain the twisted metal speaks of the violence of that fateful day. The United States flag on display in the exhibit was on board the ship on December 7, 1941, and because of its small size was used on the Admiral's barge or the Captain's gig.
