Artists have been drawn to the challenges of capturing the Grand Canyon on canvas since the late 1800's when the Santa Fe Railway began to sponsor artist expeditions there as a way of promoting travel out West to tourists. One of these early painters was Thomas Moran whose magnificent and ethereal painting Passing Storm will also be included in this exhibition. 'Our Grand! exhibition will provide a rare, and historic, view of Arizona's most famous canyon through the eyes of more than 30 major artists,' says Executive Director Royce Kardinal.
