The Music Man is a charming tribute to a bygone era in Smalltown, U.S.A. Follow fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band he vows to organize - despite his not knowing a trombone from a treble clef. Meredith Willson's The Music Man is family entertainment at its best. Cabaret Showcase: ABT is offering two special cabarets on Thursday, July 3 and 17 at 10:15pm to showcase the talents of the cast of The Music Man. The general public is invited to attend for free.

I recently saw this production of Cabaret thinking that it would be a rip off of the revival, as has been the trend in local versions of the show. I was very pleasantly surprised to have seen a fantastic hybrid of the original staging and the revival. The Emcee was by far my favorite person in the show. He had amazing charisma and spoke to the audience as if they were old friends. The choreography was absolutely fantastic and very fitting to the grit and mood of story. Sally Bowles was a pleasant surprise and definitely delivered the vocal intensity that is required to pull this role off. The ensemble also stood out with a magnetic energy and a sexual presence that you could not ignore. If I had one complaint at all, it would have to be that the dialects in the show weren't the strongest and at times seemed to disappear altogether. Overall, it was one of the best productions of this show that i Have ever seen. Collapse

I thought that the show, was very well put together, the love story between Mendel, and the crazy woman with the wig, was great! Both actors delivered great performances, as well as did a great job directing the production. The young boy did a fantastic job. brought me to tears. Marvan, delivered a very passionate performance. The role of wizar was forgettable, but the actor had a wonderful voice. Highlights in the show were, "Four Jews in a Room Bitching","Breaking Down", and "I Never Wanted to Love You". Collapse

First time at ABT. Five children I took were very disappointed. Children need more visual stimulation; staging and scenery was perhaps the most ineffective I have ever seen - There really was none. Five yellow arrows on the curtain really get boring when this is the ONLY scenery used throughout the entire play. More "portable" props (like rainbow) needed, e.g., Emerald City, tornado, etc. Wicked witch, tinman, Dorothy casting was good. Others were mediocre. Many little ones loved being called munchkins (many times). Mine did not. We all loved the red shoes and Dorothy's closing "Over the Rainbow." Collapse

I saw this show with my nephew and let me say it is a PERFECT scaled-down version of the story that has touched our hearts for almost 70 years!! The actors were wonderful and totally committed to their characters - I had seen them all in MUSIC MAN the week before and they were PERFECTLY cast! For 5$, you can't beat this for summer entertainment! The above review is completely off-base - I saw that production of WIZARD OF OZ that she refers to, and as someone with a Masters in Musical Theatre, I would say it was fair at best. Collapse

The Wizard of Oz is a fun show and a very fun show to do, because in 1999 I protrayed the role of 'Dorothy' in the show. Anyway, Arizona Broadway Theater has decided to make a Children's Theater! That sounds fun, but the play was horrible! Since I am a full-scale critic, I got to see the show today. The costumes were fantastic and the singing was phenomenal, but the casting, set and crew were not good at all! I was excited at first to go see this show, but then I was very dissapointed. 'Oz' surely didn't get me to the Wizard. Collapse

This production was by far the best thing I've seen in the valley in years! However, it was not the leads who impressed me the most. It was the rousing performances by Brad as General Lord Glossop and Dennis as The Right Honorable Sir Archibald Proops Q.C. These two shone throughout the entire show leaving a strong impression on me. The voices, the acting, the charisma was brilliant. Bravo gentlemen, Bravo! You're on your way to Broadway! Collapse
