The Western Apache and the Yavapai tribes live together on several Arizona reservations established around 1872. These baskets are from Fort Verde State Historic Park, near the Camp Verde reservation. The art of basket making is one of the great cultural expressions of Native Americans. Basketry is the oldest of all present-day crafts. It is a marriage of skill, patience and aesthetics that makes a basket a work of art.
