'An Unusual Love Story' David+Lisa is an intense fairy-tale-of-sorts that tells the story of two people who meet in a mental institution. After a series of events an unlikely attachment is developed between the two volatile individuals. The true lives of David and Lisa have also been the subject of a fact-based psychoanalytic story, a stage play, and a 1960s film. Scorpius is the first to abstract their lives into the realm of contemporary dance. This production promises to be as enlightening as it is entertaining complete with original music by Kris Hill and Ryan Breen, Original choreography by Lisa Starry, and the exclusive physical narrative of this peculiar love story…a story that suits the company's idiosyncratic brand of performance very well. Lisa Starry and the Scorpius Dancers reach new heights literally and artistically in this wonderful performance lasting a little more than one hour. The audience is cleverly engaged even before the "real" performance begins and easily stays involved through the eyes of a whimsical child who finds curious happenings during her visit to an art museum. The staging is professional and accurately reflects the artistic imaginations found in the paintings of Michael Parkes. Dance and movement is delightfully presented providing both visual and acoustic satisfaction. I found it exciting to have dancers floating beautifully through the air and on stage just barely beyond my reach. The music and dance is fresh, creative and well executed. My 92 year old father thought it was one of the most enjoyable performances he had ever attended and I would have to agree. If you like modern dance, you'll be sorry if you miss this very unique and fine performance. Fantasy is for real! Collapse

This performance reminded me of the twilight zone and Cir de sol' combined. I enjoy seeing a performance that has a story to it. The costumes, lighting, and music were excellent and enhanced the skilled dancers. It was very enjoyable, unlike some contemperary companies that can be too abstract. I enjoyed how they made the pictures come to life. I think the title should have been "The Gallery", but it was really good none-the-less. The performances were good and the idea was fresh, I would recomend it to anyone who enjoys watching dances that aren't just music driven (classical ballet) or to artist oriented (abstract modern). You should go see this one, it's in a nice cozy theater, and the price is reasonable as well. Collapse

First rate show! Great soundtrack. Sexy costumes. Passionate dancing. Solid character acting. Contrary to other reviewers, I believe that "Strange Man" is essential for his story-telling and stage presence leading one scene into the next. All of the group dances were quite impressive, especially the coffin love-making orgy in deep red. I've got to experience this again. Next time, I'll bring friends and sit in the front row. Will definitely return for the next project, too. Bravo Starry Scorpius! Collapse

This was my first year for the show. It was a wonderful evening. The choreography was excellent and I loved the use of ropes before the show and fabric during the show to allow the vampires to fly. From the moment the doors opened all the actors were in character, setting the mood and unsettling a few of the patrons. The troupe is athletic and professional. If you like vampires or love dance, you should make this part of your holiday celebration. I am looking forward to seeing more shows by this troupe. Collapse

So this was my first time seeing Vampire and I was blown away. The dancing, the costumes, the stage, the music, everything was AMAZING!! I really enjoyed how it told this story through the art of dance. It kept me constantly wondering what would happen next. I would have to say my favorite pieces were the fabric and the circus like piece. Overall I really enjoyed the performance and highly recommend seeing this to everyone. You won’t be disappointed; trust me. Collapse
