Set in 1929-1930 Berlin on the eve of the Nazis' rise to power, Cabaret focuses on English cabaret singer Sally Bowles and her relationship with young American writer Cliff Bradshaw. A sub-plot involves the doomed romance between German boarding house owner Fräulein Schneider and one of her tenants, Jewish fruit vendor Herr Schultz. Overseeing the action is the Emcee, who presides as master of ceremonies at the Kit Kat Klub and serves as a general commentator. The MAC Farnsworth Studio will be transformed into a real-life Cabaret, in which you will thoroughly enjoy this intriguing story and this wonderful music. Cabaret is a musical with a book by Joe Masteroff, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and music by John Kander. The 1966 Broadway production became a hit and spawned an acclaimed 1972 film as well as numerous subsequent productions. Cabaret has won Tony and Drama Desk Awards for Best Musical, Composer and Lyricist, Best Revival (twice) and numerous other awards and tributes. Mesa Encore Theatre (MET) is proud to bring back director Phillip Fazio, and Sarah Wolter as Sally Bowles, both Artists-in-Residence at Phoenix Theatre, who received raves for their work last season in MET's The Last Five Years. Please Note: Cabaret is not intended for children. It contains Adult situations and topics. Event Location: This performance will take place in the Anita Cox-Farnsworth Studio within the Mesa Arts Center.

This was the first production of Cabaret I've ever seen and it more than exceeded my expectations. I have seen quite a few shows directed by the talented Phillip Fazio, but this one really took the cake. Encompassing the charisma, depth and passion of both Sally Bowles and the Emcee, Fazio showcases a brilliant version of this broadway classic. I could go on and on but you should buy tickets and see this for yourself! Collapse

I've never seen Cabaret before (theatre or movie), so this was an eye-opening experience and "wilkommen" to the story/themes. The MC was absolutely phenomenal - I was blown away by his performance. No sour note whatsoever, captivating and intense. Rest of cast was stellar with music to match. A great theatre experience I'm glad I had. Collapse

I am visiting from Tucson and a friend told me I had to see Cabaret at Mesa Arts Center. She said it was a Cabaret like none other, one that really stripped it to its core. She was so right. I am still talking about the production. This is Cabaret as it must be seen, one that is stripped bare and to the bone and directed and acted with such intensity and such authenticity, in a totally risk-taking piece. It makes you cry, laugh, makes you think. This is truly an artistic triumph. Collapse
