Plant yourself down at Desert Stages for this musical comedy by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken about a bloodthirsty blossom from beyond the stars, hell-bent on global domination! In the midst of a total eclipse of the sun, this seething seedling is found by Seymour, a nerdy florist shop worker who discovers his plant desires more than mere sunlight - it feeds on blood! But when the lure of fame and fortune leads our luckless hero to make a bloody pact with this horticultural horror, Seymour finds himself with an ill-tempered carnivore with a bottomless appetite. This affectionate spoof of 1950's sci-fi movies delivers a frighteningly delicious night of entertainment with songs like Somewhere That's Green, Skid Row (Downtown) and Suddenly Seymour. Terry Helland directs. Suitable for school-age and older.

This is one of the best shows I have seen at Scottsdale Desert Stages Mainstage in a long while. All the actors have fabulous singing voices and the two leads are perfect for their roles. It also helps that there is a live band rather than pre-recorded music which is the norm for this theatre and which sometimes distracts from the performances. Highly recommended. Collapse
