Founded in 2007, the South Scottsdale Poetry Slam (SSPS) is a new, weekly poetry event focused on writing poetry first, performing second. Anyone, regardless of experience, is encouraged to come and read their original work! The Downtown Poetry Slam is dedicated to offering a space for poets to develop their writing and performance skills; to support traveling poets; to make poetry accessible and entertaining for audience members; and to use poetry to positively impact local and global communities. Tonight's slam includes a special performance by featured poet Joseph Nieves. Joseph has been living in exile in the desert for sometime. Like Ben Kenobi. Now he's making his triumphant return to the stage with his special blend of pop culture and soul.
