Using trial transcripts, interviews, articles and correspondence of the day, we follow the 'trial of the century'-- the trials of Oscar Wilde. Trying to defend himself from the statement, 'posing sodomite,' Wilde suddenly had to defend not only his sexuality but his own writing, plays and art. This is the harrowing true story of the downfall and de-construction of one of the world's greatest writers.

I loved the movie The Bad Seed, so I knew I'd like the show, but I didn't expect it to be as funny but moving as it was. With a full grown man playing little 8 year old Rhoda, and Paul Braun's witty take on landlady Monica Breedlove, there were plenty of laughs, but not in a spoofy way. Rosemary Close, Petey Swartz, and Greg Lutz are excellent, playing the heck out of their roles! The rest of the audience was just as into the show as I was--Laughing, applauding and getting totally caught off-guard by the sad and tragic elements that really pack a punch! Robert X. Planet did a marvelous job! Collapse

iTheatre Collaborative took a huge chance in deciding to produce this very intense, challenging and (maybe) dangerous script. Lavery explores territory that no one wants to think about, but her lucid examination of brutally repellent subject matter is infused with poetry and the strange clarity of emotion that comes with life's most basic realizations. iTC's production, under Michael Traylor's steady direction, is masterful and serves this grim material with unflinching honesty. Shannon Whirry gives a shattering performance as a bereaved woman who delays mourning her lost daughter for over 20 years. Christopher Haines' detailed depiction of the most repulsive of criminals is, in the end, imbued with a twisted but believable humanity. As the doctor who brings mother and killer together, Rosemary Close elucidates Lavery's disturbing ideas of how a criminal personality is created, the uses of remorse, and can one forgive the unforgivable. This is great theater. See it! Collapse

Orson's Shadow is very well-written, but without expert direction and the perfectly honed performances, it would have sunk under it's own weight. Greg Lutz as Olivier and Christopher Haines as Welles are immensely entertaining, and nail their well-known characters perfectly. Andi Watson and Jason Barth give wonderful performances as Vivian Leigh and Kenneth Tynan, as does Shannon Whirry in the lesser role of Joan Plowright. Don't miss this amazingly intelligent night of theater!! Collapse

I was riveted by the performance of Orson's Shadow!!!! Time passed far too quickly! Every actor in this play made their characters so real that I found myself totally immersed in Orsons world!!The talent I saw on this stage was beyond excellent! The dialog was brilliant! Jason Barth, Kane Anderson, Christopher Haines, Shannon Whirry, Greg Lutz and Andi Watson all deserve standing ovations! I intend to start going to more performances at the Herberger Theater from now on due entirely to this outstanding play I happened to see on Sunday. Thank you for a wonderful experience!! Collapse
