Poetry in Motion, an exhibition that examines history and home, particularly the memory of a distant home, featuring artists Kathryn Pinto and Adil Rahee. Pinto works in paper (fragile) and Rahee works in clay (rock hard). Though their media seem worlds apart, both are breakable and both have a story to tell about life's ups and downs. Both are in tune with the nature of humanity and both take the audience down a road to open its eyes to the story. Rahee creates large-scale ceramic sculpture, while Pinto's work consists of prints and artist's books of a hand-held scale. Rahee's work relates his experience in Iraq to the history of Iraq and Babylonian culture. Pinto's work juxtaposes autobiographical narrative stories to the parallel environmental history of the area of Long Island Sound. While the subject matter and outward appearance of both artists' work is very different, they approach the same questions of what it means to be away from home, of constructing a history and relating their own individual experience to the larger global issues. Exhibition Location: Connections Café exhibition space, Tempe Public Library
