Organization
Ballet Arizona
For twenty-one years Ballet Arizona has been the Southwest's premier professional dance ensemble. In its twenty-second season, the company and its artistic director, Ib Andersen, remain dedicated to preserving and celebrating classical ballet, and to creating and commissioning new, innovative, challenging dance works.
Ballet Arizona is held in high regard by local arts and business organizations for its contributions to the quality of life in its community. In 2006 Ballet Arizona was named one of Phoenix Magazine's "Best of the Valley," and recognized as "Arts Organization of the Year" by the Arts & Business Council of Greater Phoenix for exemplifying artistic integrity and fiscal responsibility. In 2007, Governor Janet Napolitano named Ib Andersen Arizona's Artist of the Year.
Ballet Arizona employs 38 professional dancers in offering five fully staged ballet productions, eight free community performances, and five educational matinees each season. In total, more than 60 performances are presented for 90,000 Valley residents; 35,000 of those are served by Ballet Arizona's extensive education and outreach programs, offered through schools, parks, and community centers throughout the region.

How lucky can we get? Ballet AZ has wowed us again with their Don Quixote. Brilliantly performed with balletic excellence and comediac charm they prove again and again that we really do have a company that is a jewel in the desert. Ib Andersen must be beaming with pride at his company's achievement which rivaled any of the world's company (and I've seen many, having been born and raised in NYC). What's more, they all seem to be having such fun. As a member of the Ballet AZ VOlunteer Corps, I can tell you they ARE enjoying themselves and will do only their best to please Ib and also Olga, who has come to us for the staging of this piece and last year's Swan Lake. We who are devotees of the ballet consider ourselves most fortunate. We anticipate only more and more thrills as the years go by. Bravo, Ballet Arizona. Collapse

I had a wonderful time at the ballet. I was so pleased with my experience I need to let you know about my evening. The seats and the performance were great. I wish more venues would offer tickets at a reduced price. I go to a lot of performances at the Mesa Art Center and Gammage at ASU. Many times I see empty seats which could have been offered to students or at the last minute a great bargain on your site. I will continue to look for more opportunities. Collapse

I saw "The Nutcracker" the last two years. I thought it was okay the last two years, but in a way a mish mash of a "Nutcracker." However, this year "The Nutcracker" was AMAZING. It was unbelievable. The sets were so beautiful and spectacular. When the Christmas tree grew, it was magical. The costumes were so intricate and elaborate. I highly suggest this. If you haven't seen it yet, go see it in the next few days. Collapse

As always, Ballet Arizona was impressive and moving. But, as is often the case with Valley dance companies, the choice of music was less than glorious. With dozens of magnificent compostions available from the Romantic and Impressionism periods for these two world premieres, surely more inspirational music than Haydon for "Before," or Shostakovitch for "Go With It" could have been discovered. At the risk of sounding the Philistine, for me great Ballet is 40% splendid music and 60% superb dance. But I loved the performance, and will always appreciate Ballet Arizona. Collapse
