I've been to the first two plays and they were so engrossing, cast was wonderful, you aren't aware that they are reading when they act. These plays are very special because the playwright is there and you can engage in a dialogue and comment after the play. They are much better plays than many of the old favorites in full production in the valley. I've been going since they began 11 years ago! Collapse

I just saw this show and it was wonderful. Then again, one should not expect anything less from Phoenix Theatre, as they often mount quality productions. The entire cast was very talented, although I must admit the standouts were Beau Heckman as Benny Southstreet, Robert Kolby Harper as Nicely, and Kristen Drathman as Adelaide. All three are wonderful character actors and witty on-stage. The only thing I really felt lacking was chemistry between the romantic leads (Adelaide and Nathan, as well as Sarah and Sky). Other than that, congrats to the all involved on putting on a terrific show. The audience truely enjoys it! Collapse

This show is what classic Broadway is all about! The Phoenix Theatre has created a "Millie" that is just simply wonderful. The cast for this show was great! Nataile Ellis was an incredible Millie and belted out every song with sprakle. The ensemble was wonderful and there are some fimilar faces from other shows around the valley that you will recognize. The sets and the costumes were brilliant. Thes set was beautiful with surprises around every corner. There was even a working elveator! The costumes were stunning and brought the 1920's to life! You would be crazy to miss this show! Even if you saw the show at Gammage a few years back, come see what "Millie" is all about! This is a show the whole family will love!!! Collapse

Two down, two to go, and what great fun. These staged readings are as close to a full production as you could wish, utilizing outstanding local actors with whom regular theatre goers are quite familiar. But the coup of the evening, which adds at least a half star to the overall experience, is the stimulating post show audience discussion, which includes the playwright, director and actors. Not only can the audience request an explanation of various substantive and production aspects of the new play, but they can also offer suggestions as to how they think the play might be further enhanced. Anyway, try to catch the last two weekends. This is my third full season for the Phoenix Theatre's New Works Festival, and I wouldn't miss it for the world. Nor the many other staged readings around town such as those at the ASU College of Fine Arts. Which reminds me Dan, what ever happened to that free ticket? Collapse
