Greasepaint Scottsdale Youtheatre
Serving Scottsdale and surrounding communities, Greasepaint Youtheatre programming is designed to develop the life skills and aesthetic knowledge that Youth will carry with them both as Artists and Audiences of Tomorrow.
Their mission is to nurture the intellectual, artistic, and personal development of Youth through a range of professionally managed and directed theatrical experiences, drama education, and the power of live theatre performances.
Greasepaint Youtheatre's philosophy is to provide child-centered programming, founded in arts curriculum and national standards for the performing arts. This professionally-designed programming, taught by expert teaching artists, creates an environment which provides a safe and open forum for each student interested in experiencing the Arts to personally explore new and exciting forms, while at the same time, building life skills they will display in the community. Each program will have a purpose, a focus, and serve the community as a whole, while also providing Greasepaint with a population of eager and talented student-performers who will demonstrate those skills by helping create a piece of live theatre.

The show Mulan Jr. at Stagebrush Theatre was one of the best performances I have yet to see with my child, in the Valley. The acting was great but the music blew me away.On the way home my child had all the words to "I'll Make A Man Out of You" stuck in his head. The older male actors, such as the boy who played Qian-Po really kept me laughing. A great comedy to keep the whole family laughing. Collapse

I will start with the young actors in the production of Mulan Jr. The ancestors who are the narrators of the tale all do a wonderful job with exspressive facial expressions. Grandma fa played by young Jessica was the true star of the show who had a great feel for the character. Mulan played by Sierra has a wonderful voice but I think she was miscast as the role of Mulan, she didn't remind me at all of the disney's character, which she should. Mushu was played by Jaylia who was great at the role she moved just like a dragon with a wonderful belt! The Matchmaker played by Danielle interpretation of the role was different from the disney movie but still great!Captain Shang was played by Yichao who had a good stage presence. Director did a good job bringing the disney movie to life. The Costumes and Lighting were dissapointing. The sets were simple and sweet. Overall I was impressed. Thank you to Phoenix Theatre! I laughed... I cried... I stood on my feet and cheered! OK, that's a little overboard, but it's all true. This show is a lot of fun to watch. The singing is outstanding, the costumes and lighting are a treat, and many scenes are really crack-you-up funny! This production of Mulan Jr. is well executed and well cast. Because it's fast-paced and not too long (well under 90 minutes), this is a great show to attend with the kids. Collapse

An awesome performance by young, very young (6-19) actors. Their voices, the choreography, wardrobe design, etc. Completely breathtaking... Funny and dramatic. Great job!

I thought this play was FANTASTIC! The talent of these kids was remarkable! And, I'm looking forward to seeing it one more time before they close.

I don't know if any of the previous reviewers are or not, and up until now I have resisted submitting a review. I have ushered numerous performances and over and over again I hear comments like, "What an incredible cast", "the time flew by, what a great show", "I'm coming back to see this again!". My daughter has thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the process with this production. These very talented dedicated performers and the folks at Phx Theatre/Greasepaint have put together a fantastic show on a shoestring budget. I am continually impressed with all aspects of this complex musical production. This weekend is your last chance to see this great show!! "I wish" nothing but continued success for everyone involved with the new Greasepaint organization and the performers. Collapse
