Mesa Arts Center
The new Mesa Arts Center is a 212,775-square-foot performing arts, visual arts, and arts education facility, the largest and most comprehensive arts center in the state of Arizona. Located in the heart of downtown at Center and Main Streets, Mesa Arts Center reflects the city's rich tradition of family, community and pride.
An inviting oasis by day and a luminous beacon by night, this central gathering place is designed to showcase a world of arts and culture ? everything from art exhibitions to world-class performances to state-of-the-art studios for art education. The design of Mesa Arts Center was inspired by the unique character of the Sonoran Desert ? a rich desert, mountain and canyon environment. The campus includes a complex of four theaters, Mesa Contemporary Arts' galleries and exhibition space, two Art Studios buildings with visual and performing arts studios and classrooms, informal performance areas, administrative support space, and a 700-foot Shadow Walk that creates an inviting, shaded outdoor oasis plaza.-

There are times, on his current 19-city tour of North America with double-bass virtuoso Edgar Meyer and tabla master Zakir Hussain, when Béla Fleck will take off on his instrument – in his hands, the banjo has evolved into something deserving of a more sophisticated title — and Hussain will instinctively follow along, matching Fleck’s mercurial soloing beat for note. Over Meyer’s melodic bedrock, the banjo revolutionist and the innovating Indian percussionist match each other’s playing like double guitarists in a southern rock band, at once adding both a percussive flavor to Fleck’s banjo trills and a melodic facet to each of Hussain’s tabla strikes. It’s this synchronicity of musical elements that gives meaning to the name of the trio’s current best-selling classical album, The Melody of Rhythm. When masters of divergent instruments find a common groove, rhythm sings and melody rocks. (More at http://musicandmoreaz.com) Collapse

The Mesa Arts Center (MAC)Festival, held each Saturday from 10:00a.m. to 4:00p.m., is a wonderful addition to downtown Mesa. It offers the city residents, surrounding towns, and visitors alike, a unique cultural experience along with the excitement of shopping on the city's "Main" Street. I highly recommend an afternoon out on the town...and bring the kids--it's a great way to expose them to the arts! Collapse

I completely disagree with “Glass Seller’s” review, it’s totally off base. I too went to the Sat. evening performance and was only six rows back and did not notice any problems whatsoever with the mics. I have been to all of the major Broadway musicals and even believe this musical will some day be compared to the likes of “Phantom of the Opera.” This was the first ever performance of this musical; it stands to reason that it would not be perfect. I thought the music and the orchestra were absolutely awesome! There were a couple of songs and scenes that I didn’t care for, but over all it was fabulous. The performers were good, but not great. There were two exceptional performances by the character Robin and Lou. I think you’ll see this musical again, bigger and better than ever, probably in a larger theater market too. It was pathetic how few people showed up, however I suppose that is to be expected from a first time musical. Mr. Anderson, if you read this…kudos to you! Collapse
