ASU Gammage

ASU Gammage, located on the Main Campus of Arizona State University in Tempe, was the last completed public project of internationally renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The striking circular design was first developed for a concert hall in Baghdad, Iraq. When that country's economic turmoil precluded the Shaw from constructing the hall in the late 1950's, Wright and his good friend, then ASU president Grady Gammage, adapted the design for an entirely different desert. Gammage opened in September, 1964. Today, Gammage is home to M&I Bank Broadway in Arizona, one of the most successful Broadway series in the country. In addition, Gammage presents "Beyond Broadway," a series of artistically unique and culturally diverse performances which range from spoken word to contemporary dance and cutting-edge theater, as well as family shows. All of Gammage's performances resonate beyond the stage and into the community through Gammage's extensive and award-winning education and outreach programs.

    Based on the popular movies, 'High School Musical' brought Disney alive and became even more famous when all the girls saw Zac Efron. Any way, I decided to go see it Live at no where else than the ASU Gammage. It sucked. The acting was not even funny. It was horrible. The singing was okay, but Troy and Gabriella sounded a little pitchy. The set, whoa! That set was so ugly I seriously felt like going up on that stage and kicking it down!     This show has something most musicals lack: a true heart. I walked out of the theatre and went to the box office and bought tickets to go again. The cast in truly amazing and place so much emotion into their character. The set was astonishing and consisted of many beautiful scenery. I highly suggest going to see this show while it is in town.     Johnny was sensational. His voice and songs trancend time. He appears shy and doesn't engage the audience, but who cares? The comedian was also terrific. A wonderful evening.

    I see a lot of shows, and this is by far the BEST thing I have seen! If you go to one show a year, Go to this one. The cast was amazing. We had an understudy for Frankie, and he was the best live performer I have seen in any show. The set was very simplistic, but fitting. The catwalk and the mesh fence added the perfect touch. This is a show just about anyone from ages 14-100 would enjoy. GO SEE IT! Collapse
