Nearly Naked Theatre
Nearly Naked Theatre is a not-for-profit group of local artists: actors, writers, directors, designers and technicians, seeking a new voice in valley theater, free of censorship and artistic stifling, who want to produce thought-provoking and entertaining theater.
Why is the theater ?nearly naked?? The name does not refer to the participants? state-of-dress. Nearly Naked is theater that has been stripped down to its essentials. Free of conformity and political pressure, Nearly Naked presents theater that is honest by its simplicity. Lavish sets and costumes may be used, but are not required. When something is naked, it is exposed and presented without pretense, and that is the nature of this theater. The actors themselves are not naked?unless that is the nature of the show. They would be naked if performing Hair or Oh! Calcutta, but definitely not for South Pacific or Annie (Nearly Naked Theatre has no intention of producing any of these plays in the near future, please do not buy season tickets based on those titles).-

"Go See This!"

Local theater can be pretty bad, but when it's good it can be great. This is beyond that - a definite labor of love!

"Fantastic show!"

So good that we will probably see again. My daughter's comment afterwards, "Give that soloist in 525,600 Minutes a recording contract!!" Beautiful ensemble singing, excellent leads.

The guy that plays Benny is so incredibly talented. His voice is a cross between Jesus and Fergie. It doesnt hurt that he is super sexy and not gay.

I saw this show opening night at Nearly Naked. I have seen a number of shows there and have to say this is one of the best i've seen there. I have also seen this show professionally at least 5 times and let me say, this production does it complete justice and what I was happy for (being a true RENT fan) is that this production did not sway far from the original. There were a few "actors" and costume choices I could've done with out, but I will not mention them here as not to dissuade anyone from seeing this phenomenal production. This is in the top 5 of my favorite musicals to date. If you have the chance and want to see true emotionally raw theatre, this is the show for you. If this is your first time seeing this show (have you been living under a rock?), you won't be disappointed. Nearly Naked needs to keep putting up quality shows like this...When I thought 'Blood Brothers' changed my view on this theatre, then along came 'RENT'...get your tickets before they sell out!! I am a theatre snob. I like good theatre. I also like edgy theatre. I may never see another show like this again... well until tomorrow when I see it again. Outstanding performances by the cast led by Johanna. She is a known actress of the Arizona alternative theatre world but this show will bring her out to the rest of the theatre world....she should be on Broadway... what a voice! She carries this show and sets up the rest of the cast to excellence. I would not be surprised to see her in a touring cast of something big soon...seriously don't miss her while she is right here in our backyard. The music is amazing although a little loud at moments... the rest of the cast especially the narrator and the other mom are wonderful. This is the best show in town and possibly of the year!!! Unbelievably incredible. Why has no one ever done this show? I'd never heard of it, but I couldn't believe how much I loved it. So beautiful. The boys playing the twins are the best part! Especially in the first part where they're little kids. So funny. Which makes the rest of it so sad. The woman playing the mother and the guy playing the boogeyman are also amazing. And the music is really really good. Go see it! And buy me another ticket so I can see it again! :-) Collapse

This is a show I saw in London, and Nearly Naked really did a great job. It is a show not-to-be missed and if it can make "grown men cry" (which I actually saw)it rates 5 stars!!!!

I saw this last night on opening night and was blown away. I have seen a few shows at Nearly Naked Theatre and this by far has the best i've seen. There was not a weak link in the show. Two standouts would be the women who played Mrs. Johnstone and Mrs. Lyons. They definately carried this show. At times funny and many more times, touching, this show is guaranteed to leave you wanting more. My only complaints are, the slip of accents here and there, not that this is what the show is all about, but at points it was very noticible. The other thing would be, at points the band was very overwhelming, to the part where it was extremely hard to understand the characters. Other than that, you are sure to miss if out if you do not catch this one!! Collapse
