    Luis Urrea knows and understands his amazing characters. Delicious novel. Urrea's sensitivity to the problems and daily life of his young characters is outstanding. A must-read. The smells and adventures presented here will remain with the reader. Spunky adventures of young people with a mission -- including an assertive young Mexican woman and her companions. The hardships of those who enter the U.S. from Tijuana to San Diego remain etched on reader's heart. Luis Urrea knows Mexico. He loves the U.S. and Mexico since both countries are a part of who he is. Even the Border Patrol come across as human and humane without being romanticized. The author's sensitivity to border issues really comes across. Excellent book. Well worth reading! Collapse
