    African American Multicultural Museum

The newly-opened African American Multicultural Museum is Scottsdale's first arts venue dedicated to African American and other cultures whose mission is "Fellowship through Education." The museum's co-founders, Edward and Kay VanDyke, had long dreamed of bringing an African-American museum to Scottsdale and with the help of donors and members, opened the museum in south Scottsdale in November 2005. Exhibits are largely from donors' personal collections of African masks, painted Egyptian papyrus, drums and a well-recognized painting from the Cosby Show.

The museum gift shop features books about African-American history, contributions of black veterans, and the evolution of music from slave days to jazz, and jewelry made of bone, mother-of-pearl and coral. Many other cultures will be featured at the museum in future exhibits.
